Auburn is a city of about 14,195 citizens, and is the county seat of Placer County. First settled by the Nisenan tribe, Auburn started growing in 1848 when French prospecters camped there during the Gold Rush. By 1850, over 1,500 residents lived in Auburn. The Transcontinental Railroad had a stop here in 1865. The city still has a fire station and post office that date back to the Gold Rush days.
